This fellowship is for activists and investigative journalists who want to work on a critical social justice issue for a year. Successful applicants will receive a grant to work on their project and a budget to produce a final product.
The focus of the sixth Bertha Challenge is on farming and the climate crisis. They want applicants to investigate how corporate interests and political power are contributing to the crisis and what people can do to stop it.

Activists should have:
- At least five years of experience working with social movements and community organizations

- Strong research and investigative skills
- Ability to work independently

Additional Information
The Bertha Challenge Fellowship offers a comprehensive package to support your work. You'll receive a yearly stipend of up to $64,900 to cover your expenses. Additionally, you'll have access to a project fund of up to $10,000 to produce a culminating product that showcases your findings. To foster collaboration, you'll also have access to a connect fund of up to $5,000. Throughout the fellowship, you'll be part of regular online discussions and peer support sessions to share knowledge and resources. Finally, you'll become part of a global network of Bertha Fellows and partners, opening up opportunities for future collaborations and exposure.
Activists:
To be eligible, you must have at least five years of experience working with social movements, grassroots organizations, or community groups. You should have strong connections with diverse groups in your region, including social movements, community organizations, NGOs, academics, and journalists. Additionally, you should have experience developing organizing tools and materials, using research and media in advocacy, and affiliating with a host organization to amplify your work.
Investigative Journalists:
If you're an investigative journalist, you must have a minimum of five years of experience in the field, a proven track record of producing investigative work, and a strong interest in the Bertha Challenge question. You should have a comprehensive understanding of the political landscape, excellent research and investigative skills, and the ability to work independently. Additionally, you must be affiliated with a host media organization that will publish or broadcast your work produced during the Bertha Challenge.
