Would you be interested in getting together with other global youth leaders? This is your opportunity! Submit a Hurford Youth Fellowship application! Hurford Youth Fellowship applications are now being accepted by NED.

NED, the National Endowment for Democracy
NED is a private, nonprofit organisation that was founded in 1983 with the goal of using nongovernmental initiatives to improve democratic institutions around the world. Global pro-democracy organisations receive funding from NED, which is run by an impartial, independent board.

World Movement for Democracy: Started by NED in 1999, this international network brings together proponents of democracy in non-democratic countries, scholars, practitioners, activists, and funders in order to strengthen democracy in areas where it is weak or stagnant.

Concerning the Hurford Youth Fellows Initiative
The Hurford Youth Fellows Programme seeks to develop young people's leadership abilities as global advocates for democracy. The three-month fellowship will be spent in Washington, D.C., where fellows will learn from democratic groups, broaden their worldwide networks, and support the global struggle for democracy. Among the activities are:

carrying out studies on subjects pertaining to democracy.
creating digital materials and leading conversations.
utilising social media to support the World Movement.
taking part in talks and activities in Washington, D.C.
putting together and directing talks about their work.
After the fellowship ends, the fellows will continue to interact with the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network by serving as area focal points.

Program Benefits
A monthly stipend, basic health insurance, and round-trip transportation to Washington, D.C. are all provided to each fellow. They have access to the Democracy Resource Centre at NED and are given office space.


Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must be under thirty years old, exhibit a strong desire to engage in democratic engagement, and have ties to civil society organisations. English proficiency is a prerequisite. Postdoctoral research, university students, and other fellowships are not supported by the programme.

Procedure for Selection
A candidate's record of activism, willingness to network, interest in furthering democracy, and how the fellowship will help their democratic endeavours are all taken into consideration when choosing fellows. Fellows who are chosen must devote their entire time to their projects at the NED headquarters in Washington, D.C.
