UNDP Grant Opportunity of $100,000 : Submit proposals for Creating Public Awareness and Support for Climate Action

Proposals to raise public understanding of climate change impacts and responses and to encourage civil society to engage in more discourse and push for climate action are being accepted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Women and young people in Libya should be included in the implementation of these measures, as should all other segments of the country's population.

UNDP is seeking to collaborate with a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) registered either domestically or internationally, or with a coalition headed by an NGO, to carry out these three initiatives with considerable funding from the European Union:

surveying the people on attitudes and knowledge on climate change
Organise gatherings to talk about and share information about climate change.
To better understand how to assist them, map out the present actors in climate change and advocacy from academic institutions and civil society.

The purpose of the call for proposals is to assign these three activities to a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that is registered either nationally or internationally, or to a coalition headed by one of these organisations.

The project aims to conduct a public survey to assess public knowledge and support for climate action. The survey will identify public awareness of climate change caused by greenhouse gas release, assess public concern about its impacts on personal lives and children, and evaluate the priority of climate action and public support for specific actions. The survey will be developed in consultation with UNDP and conducted in a culturally appropriate manner, ensuring that views from a broad segment of the Libyan population, including women and youth, are gathered. The survey will also be culturally appropriate and representative of the Libyan population.

The activity aims to enhance public knowledge on climate change and its impacts, fostering discussion on response options. Activities include convening forums, creating visual information products, films, and social media platforms, with a methodology to assess engagement, particularly among youth and women.

The project involves mapping civil society and academic institutions working on climate change and advocating for their capacities. It aims to identify these organizations and their methods, and convene them to discuss how UNDP and its partners can support climate change advocates. The forum will enhance mapping and provide recommendations for strengthening the organizational and collective capacity of civil society.
