FUNDING OF  €20,000 : Submit applications for the Strengthening Sports and Inclusive Academies in Africa

PLAY International and the Diambars Institute are collaborating to implement the “Strengthening Sports and Inclusive Academies in Africa” programme (henceforth referred to as the “Academies Program”) because of their combined industry experience, significant sport networks, and in-depth understanding of the continent.

The goal of this three-year programme is to assist academies in creating successful teaching and educational sectors so that young people can find employment and professional prospects. It seeks to assist academies in making a shift towards gender equality in particular as well as an economic one. This phase is made feasible by training tomorrow's leaders in the transmission of cultural values (generosity, gender equality, respect, etc.) and by encouraging and/or fostering diversity within structures (students and professionals).

Objective
The goal of the AAP call for projects is to include eight or ten more sports academies in the initiative. The aim is to provide technical and instructional support to foster the creation of projects that benefit young people who are hosted and their communities.
The AAP seeks to support growing academies in particular by providing a structured support system that enables them to assess and refine their model with respect to:

Gender Equality: specifically on the growth of diversity and the training and understanding of gender-related issues (gender equality, gender-based violence, the fight against gender-based stereotypes). In order to promote women's contributions to the academies' performance and their influence on the local and national levels, emphasis will be placed on their involvement in the project's and the academies' governance.

Education: bolster students' dedication to their studies, assist them with their orientation and professional integration, and promote their involvement in professional training, especially in the context of sports-related careers.

Economic model: create a strategy for strengthening the academy's business model to guarantee the long-term viability of the institution and its initiatives in order to withdraw from the "Academies" programme.

Child protection: supplying and maintaining a safe, healthy environment where the needs and rights of the younger beneficiaries are honoured.

The purpose of this AAP is to assist organisations that show a strong commitment to carrying out initiatives whose principles, mission, and vision centre on using sport as a tool for personal growth and education for the most vulnerable people. This is the reason that organisations and initiatives that support capacity growth and which:

In order to help the young athlete become a citizen of the future, assist them in their personal, academic, and professional endeavours.
Encourage women to participate in and gain liberation from sports;
Provide professional development and training programmes to help implement educational and sporting initiatives that support diversity, gender equality, and cohabitation;
Create educational initiatives that use sports to empower young people;
Encourage young people to acquire cross-sectoral skills that will improve their employability in the long run and align with the professional prospects in the intervention area.

Assist youth with the development of their professional and academic projects as well as their integration into the workforce.
Expect the project to be sustainable in the long run;
Participate in the supporting organization's structural design, especially with regard to the governance and economic model.
Gain from the endorsements of African-American athletes and professional athletes engaged in sports and development.
Assure and supply a safe, secure environment that upholds the child protection principles and respects the needs and rights of the younger beneficiaries. The academies will therefore be able to suggest initiatives meant to improve their child protection policy.

To be qualified for the AAP, these academies must also fulfil the requirements outlined in PLAY International's money laundering, counterterrorism financing, and corruption prevention procedures (AML-FT procedures).
The academies will also make sure to provide communication strategies to highlight the project's accomplishments.
The academies will also make sure to provide communication strategies to highlight the project's accomplishments.

Themes

This project focuses on education, social inclusion, and capacity building through sport. The aim is to use sports and games as educational tools to deliver prevention and awareness messages to children and young people.

The Sport and Development programs strive to utilize sports as a means of personal development, contributing to the overall growth and education of individuals. This is achieved by imparting knowledge and fostering the development of psychosocial, social, cognitive, and emotional skills in children, adolescents, and young adults.

The objective is to "transform" individuals or their situations by reshaping their self-perception (enhancing self-esteem; achieving a common goal through each person's contribution and success), their perception of others (promoting inclusion and tolerance of differences; players win or lose together, encouraging mutual aid), and their perception of the world (understanding their environment and society; participants face external challenges such as achieving a certain number of points or within a set time frame).

Activities

Through sports, you engage in activities that:

- Include vulnerable, marginalized, and disadvantaged children and young people, including those with disabilities.
- Contribute to the achievement of at least three of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as:

- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being: Engaging in physical activity is one of the best ways to prevent physical and psychological illnesses. Additionally, sports events are ideal for raising awareness about hygiene, nutrition, and communicable diseases, helping to reduce health-related costs.

- SDG 4: Quality Education: Sports can be a source of motivation for schooling and improve concentration. They also teach life skills and cultivate values that support positive personal development in young people. In the long term, sports contribute to equitable and quality education.

- SDG 5: Gender Equality: Sports promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls by impacting health and well-being, self-esteem, social integration, and diversity. Over time, these themes enhance women's employability and leadership.

- Provide access for young girls to participate in the workforce and management teams of sports academies.
- Demonstrate a commitment to including the values of living together, inclusion, and gender equality in the personal development projects of young people, and in the construction of their academic and sporting curriculum.
