Call for projects tackling online gender-based violence (GRANTS)
The "Online Women's Rights Lab" initiative, introduced by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2024), aims to address and curb online gender-based violence. The initiative supports the creation of innovative technical solutions, the development of concrete projects, and the advancement of research focused on combating online violence against women.
### Funding and Eligibility
- **Total Available Funds:** €250,000 (up to 5 projects)
- **Grant Range:** €40,000 – €60,000
- **Deadline for Submission:** September 23, 2024, by 11:59 PM (Paris Time)
- **Global Scope:** Applicants from any country can apply.
### Program Goals
- **Fostering Technological Solutions:** Funding is provided for projects that develop tech-based approaches to fight gender-based violence online.
- **Supporting Research and Initiatives:** Financial assistance is available for research and initiatives that aim to prevent or tackle online gender violence.
### Eligibility Requirements
#### Lead Applicant Criteria:
- Must be a legally recognized nonprofit organization, civil society group, research institution, or private sector actor.
- Should be established in a qualified state as per the financial regulations.
- Must take direct responsibility for managing the project.
- A bank account must be held in the name of the entity applying.
- The organization must present documentation proving its legal standing.
- Should have at least two years of experience handling projects or managing grants related to the call's themes.
#### Project Criteria:
- Should contribute to gender equality and directly address online violence against women.
- Must be completed within 11 months.
- Should have global or cross-border relevance and be scalable locally.
### Thematic Focus Areas
1. **Addressing Tech-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence:**
- Tackling non-consensual sharing and misuse of intimate content.
- Countering online harassment of women in public roles (politicians, activists, artists).
2. **Risks Tied to Emerging Technologies:**
- Utilizing AI to address gender-based violence online, such as non-consensual sexual deepfakes.
- Examining biases in algorithms and content moderation.
3. **Digital Education and Prevention:**
- Promoting responsible internet use to prevent online violence.
- Fostering safe digital spaces for girls, ensuring equal opportunities.
4. **Research into Online Masculinist Networks:**
- Analyzing misogynistic content and movements online.
- Studying the overlap between masculinist movements and other forms of extremism.
#### Evaluation Criteria:
1. **Relevance of the Proposal (20 points):**
- Alignment with program goals and priorities.
- Clear definition of beneficiaries and their needs.
- The project is gender-sensitive and addresses confidentiality where relevant.
2. **Project Design, Feasibility, and Effectiveness (20 points):**
- Coherence in project design, with consideration of external factors and stakeholders.
- Appropriateness and measurability of activities and objectives.
- Indicators and evaluation plans are included.
3. **Project Sustainability (25 points):**
- Strategy for long-term adoption and scaling.
- Potential for the project to have a wider impact or multiplier effect.
- Sustainability from financial, institutional, and policy perspectives.
4. **Project Management (15 points):**
- Adequate project management experience and operational methods.
- Sound financial management plans and experience with grants.
5. **Financial Aspects (20 points):**
- Activities are well reflected in the budget.
- Costs are reasonable in relation to expected outcomes.
- Adequate material and technical resources for successful project implementation.
**Overall Score:** 100 points
Projects that incorporate artificial intelligence are particularly encouraged, especially those leveraging AI to address gender-based violence. However, projects focused exclusively on workshops, individual scholarships, political party backing, or religious activities are ineligible.
