Fully Funded to Sweden : Apply for the Capacity Development Course for Innovation in Africa

Lund University is offering a graduate-level capacity development course from 2022 to 2025 to promote the use of science, technology, and innovation (STI) indicators in Africa.

This course aligns with the goals of Agenda 2063, ‘The Africa We Want,’ and is part of the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development’s (AUDA-NEPAD) African Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (ASTII) Initiative.

About the Course
The program focuses on how innovation can drive economic transformation and improve social resilience, particularly in low-income countries. Participants will explore why some developing nations progress rapidly while others lag behind, with an emphasis on innovation's role in sustainable development.

The curriculum covers theoretical and historical insights on innovation policies, industrial strategies, technology transfer, and more, applying these lessons to the participants' local contexts.

Course Structure & Timeline
- April 9 – May 4, 2025: Online introduction with lectures, readings, and short assignments.
- May 6 – May 23, 2025: Intensive in-person sessions in Lund, Sweden.
- Last week of June 2025: Final seminar and online examination.

Throughout the course, participants will analyze topics such as national innovation systems, market-state relations, and sustainable development strategies. The goal is to equip participants with the tools to develop and implement policies that support innovation and sustainable growth.

Target Audience
The course is intended for:
- Professionals working on the ASTII initiative or in innovation policy and management.
- Mid- to senior-level public officials across Africa.
- Applicants aged 30-55, with a focus on individuals from low-income countries and promoting gender balance.

Participants will be responsible for vaccinations, COVID-19 tests, visa fees, and personal expenses. Air tickets purchased by AUDA-NEPAD on behalf of Lund University are non-refundable if cancelled.
