PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the Brenthurst Foundation Machel-Mandela Internship Programme 2025

The Brenthurst Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2025 Machel-Mandela Internship Programme, named in recognition of former South African President Nelson Mandela and his wife, Graça Machel.

This internship provides young graduates with the unique chance to engage in the work of one of Africa’s prominent think tanks. Participants will be involved in organizing events, contributing to policy papers, writing opinion pieces, and undertaking various other tasks related to policy development.

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must be under 30 years old and hold a master’s degree. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential, and knowledge of African or other languages would be advantageous.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be reliable and self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to manage tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. Familiarity with essential IT skills is required, and experience in copy-editing or proofreading would be a bonus. A deep passion for Africa, along with a strong interest in exploring innovative approaches to improving the continent’s economic growth, is crucial. Additionally, a solid understanding of African political and economic issues is expected.

The internship will be a full-time position for a minimum of six months, starting on 1 February 2025. While applicants from South Africa are encouraged to apply, the programme is open to candidates from other regions as well. The intern will be based at the Foundation’s headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg, and will support staff on various projects, with some tasks possibly involving international travel. The selected intern will receive a monthly stipend, and accommodation may be provided, depending on the Foundation’s policies. Other work-related expenses might also be covered, subject to prior agreement with the Foundation.
