JOB OPPORTUNITY : Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) is looking for a Programs Officer

About the Organization
The Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) is a Kenyan national, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing women’s rights and achieving a society free of all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG). Established in 1995 to address the prevalent silence on VAWG in Kenyan society, COVAW operates across five strategic areas: Access to Comprehensive Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Services; Women’s Economic Empowerment; Women’s Leadership Development; Access to Justice; and Institutional Development.

COVAW’s initiatives aim to challenge and transform societal norms, laws, attitudes, policies, and practices that impact the safety and wellbeing of women and girls. By supporting gender-progressive laws, policies, and guidelines, and consistently engaging with diverse stakeholders, COVAW works to prevent VAWG and ensure accountability for offenders. Key partners include community groups, civil society, government entities, and the private sector.

About the Project
The Action for Paid Childcare Sector Transformation (ACT) is a four-year collaborative project using a systems approach to drive gender-transformative, locally-led action. It seeks to uplift the paid childcare sector, transforming it from a job of last resort to a respected career choice and one of economic prosperity for women in Kenya and Malawi. The project aligns with Canada’s commitments to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 5 (gender equality and empowerment) and SDG 8 (decent work for all), along with Canada’s FIAP focus on inclusive economic growth.

ACT is led by WUSC, with implementation partners including Uthabiti Africa, COVAW in Kenya, and the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) in Malawi. In Kenya, the project operates in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Kakamega.

 COVAW’s Role in ACT
