Program Benefits
The fellowship provides additional support for accompanying partners and/or children under 18 who will be staying in Germany for at least three months, including a family allowance. Fellows may also apply for the following benefits:
- A subsidy to help cover medical and liability insurance costs for an accompanying partner and/or children under 18.
- A flat-rate allowance for single parents traveling with children.
- An extension of the fellowship for research fellows with children or during maternity leave.
**Funding Information**
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers a monthly fellowship stipend of €2,200, €2,500, or €2,700, depending on the fellow's career stage. This amount is supplemented by a mobility allowance and a subsidy for medical and liability insurance. Fellows also receive a lump sum to cover travel expenses and an initial allowance. Before the fellowship begins, the Foundation offers an intensive German language course in Germany, lasting one or two months, which is also available to accompanying partners.
Eligibility Criteria
The International Climate Protection Fellowship is intended for emerging leaders and postdoctoral researchers actively engaged in climate change issues. You are invited to apply if you:
- Work on climate change-related challenges
- Are a citizen of a non-European developing or transitioning country, where you have primarily lived and worked
- Have some leadership experience and relevant leadership skills
- Have a strong command of English and/or German
**Selection Criteria**
- **Academic and Professional Background**: Includes mobility, determination, expertise, and academic achievements.
- **Leadership Abilities**: Demonstrated through prior leadership experience or strong references.
- **Research Proposal Quality**: Evaluates the originality, innovation, clarity, feasibility, and relevance of your proposal to climate protection or climate-related resource conservation, including the suitability of your chosen host and communication plan.
- **Future Potential**: Assesses your prospects for professional growth and specialization in the field of climate protection or climate-relevant resource conservation.
