FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the DW Akademie Masters in International Journalism Programme for French speakers
Applications are now open for the 2025 DW Akademie Master’s Program in International Journalism, delivered in collaboration with the Public School of Journalism at the University of Tours in France. This French-language master’s program is designed for media professionals from French-speaking countries involved in German development cooperation, particularly in North and West Africa. Priority is given to applicants who are permanent residents of countries such as Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Educational Qualifications
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent (180 credits, bac+3) earned within the last ten years before the application deadline. While candidates from all academic disciplines are welcome, special consideration is given to those with backgrounds in Information and Communication Sciences.
2. Professional Experience
Candidates must demonstrate at least one year of professional experience in media or journalism. This can include internships, volunteering, or formal employment, supported by certificates or letters from relevant organizations.
3. French Language Proficiency
Applicants must have a certified proficiency in French at a C1 or C2 level, verified through a valid DALF or TCF certification. However, candidates holding French baccalaureates, French higher education degrees, or those from countries where French is the primary language of education or work may be exempted.
4. Knowledge of English (Optional)
While not mandatory, English proficiency at a B1 level is considered advantageous for courses conducted in Germany and for broader academic engagement. Candidates without this level are encouraged to take English courses prior to starting the program if selected.
Scholarships and Financial Support
The program selects 10 students annually through a two-phase process involving document screening and an admission interview with a written test. All selected candidates receive a full scholarship that covers tuition and living expenses.
Structure and Highlights of the Program
The program offers a unique blend of academic and practical training over two years. It begins in Bonn, Germany, continues in Tours, France, and concludes with an internship in the student’s home country. This sequence is designed to equip students with specialized skills and practical knowledge, enabling them to contribute effectively to strengthening media in their countries.
Graduates receive a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Tours, along with a certificate jointly awarded by DW Akademie and the Public School of Journalism at Tours.
