Apply to join the Climate Transformation Fund for 2025
The Climate Transformation Fund (CTF), established by Milkywire, will fund innovative initiatives required to achieve global net zero.
The fund is structured around three key pillars: durable carbon removal, emission reductions, and nature restoration and protection. The 2025 call for proposals is currently open for durable carbon removal.
Pillars:
- Durable Carbon Removal
This pillar focuses on scaling carbon removal technologies. The fund’s approach emphasizes purchasing carbon removal through the Climate Transformation Fund (CTF) to maximize the long-term potential of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) as a crucial climate solution. They aim to create a catalytic effect with their purchases and target sustainable, promising solutions that integrate into the broader system needed to achieve global net-zero goals. The CTF purchases are designed to help CDR suppliers:- Develop and test innovative CDR methods in real-world scenarios.
- Scale up existing methods or practices in more sustainable, cost-effective ways that offer greater co-benefits than current solutions.
- Contribute to broader CDR ecosystem benefits, such as advancing scientific knowledge or expanding implementation into new regions.
- Emission Reductions
This pillar focuses on projects that reduce emissions and promote climate policy. The fund prioritizes initiatives with strong potential for scalability, replication, or a catalytic effect. Proposals should aim to:- Develop or scale innovative technologies that reduce emissions.
- Influence climate policy to encourage systemic change.
- Demonstrate measurable, long-term impacts aligned with decarbonization objectives.
- Nature Restoration and Protection
This pillar supports nature-based solutions implemented by non-profit organizations to help mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.

Eligibility Criteria
**Eligible Projects**
*Nature Restoration and Protection*
Projects eligible under this category should:
- Focus on activities such as afforestation, reforestation, forest preservation, wetland, or mangrove restoration, and similar efforts.
- Present a plan for scalability or self-sustainability.
- Combine climate benefits (such as emissions reduction or CO₂ absorption) with biodiversity conservation.
- Provide co-benefits for local communities, such as enhanced agriculture or poverty reduction.
- Prioritize equity by empowering local communities in decision-making processes.
**Ineligible Projects**
*Durable Carbon Removal*
The following projects are not eligible for funding under this pillar:
- Short-term carbon storage or storage with a high risk of reversal. (Carbon stored in living biomass falls under the Nature Protection and Restoration pillar).
- Removal of other greenhouse gases.
- Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects that involve fossil carbon, or Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) projects that result in the re-emission of captured carbon.
- CDR ecosystem-related services (such as Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification providers) that do not directly remove carbon.
The fund is particularly interested in projects that help expand the CDR ecosystem and complement the 27 CDR projects they have already supported, especially those with significant co-benefits. They are focused on pre-purchasing carbon removal with partial or full payments, but they cannot sign longer offtake agreements, although delivery of the removal credits can take place over several years. Carbon removal purchases will be made by the WRLD Foundation, using funds donated for the Climate Transformation Fund (CTF), and by Milkywire AB, on behalf of companies purchasing credits from selected suppliers.
