GRANTS: Apply for the Feminist Climate Action Fund Program 2025
The Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) International has launched a call for proposals under its Feminist Climate Action Fund Program, aimed at empowering women, gender-nonconforming individuals, feminist civil society organizations, and inclusive youth-led feminist groups. This initiative seeks to enhance their capacity, strengthen their networks within climate movements, and foster their participation in climate policy discussions at local, national, and European levels. The goal is to support initiatives that challenge conventional strategies, drive systemic transformation, and promote climate justice by amplifying the voices of historically marginalized communities, particularly women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.
Proposals should present groundbreaking ideas that connect gender equality with climate action through innovative and unconventional approaches. These can encompass various aspects such as economic empowerment, sustainable futures free from harmful toxins, and the impact of migration. Submissions must address multiple, intersecting forms of discrimination and privilege, considering factors like race, ethnicity, age, disability, socio-economic background, and geographical disparities. Meaningful engagement with communities most affected by climate change, including women, girls, and gender-diverse people, is a fundamental requirement. Additionally, proposed projects should have a clear and measurable impact, ensuring long-term sustainability and a tangible pathway for change.
Selected initiatives should advocate for policies and societal transformations that embrace gender-responsive and inclusive climate strategies. They should also focus on building the capacity of stakeholders, particularly marginalized groups, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to engage effectively in climate dialogues and decision-making spaces. Public awareness campaigns that highlight the intersection between gender and climate issues are encouraged, with the aim of fostering behavioral shifts and institutional reforms. Furthermore, initiatives should strive to integrate diverse and intersectional perspectives into climate policies at local, national, or global levels, influencing frameworks that shape the future of climate action.
Each successful applicant will receive funding of 25,000 euros to implement their proposed projects. The duration of these projects will be 20 months, ensuring that all initiatives conclude by February 2027. This funding opportunity is specifically open to organizations based in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, and Sweden. The range of eligible activities includes public campaigns and communication efforts, training sessions and workshops, networking events, awareness-raising initiatives, youth engagement programs, and the organization of policy dialogues.
To qualify for funding, applicants must be either a registered legal entity or an organization without legal personality. They must operate as non-profit entities and, if registered, should be civil society organizations or associations of such groups, established in one of the eligible countries. Additionally, organizations must not already be receiving funding under the European Commission’s DEAR program. Those with the financial, administrative, or operational capability to directly compete for EU funding under the EC DEAR 2022 call are also ineligible to apply.
This funding opportunity presents a significant chance for feminist and climate-focused organizations to drive impactful change. By encouraging fresh perspectives, fostering inclusivity, and advocating for policy reforms, the program aims to create a more equitable and sustainable climate movement that prioritizes the voices of those most affected by the crisis.
