EURO 3,000 STIPEND AND FUNDED TO GERMANY: Apply for the International Journalists’ Programmes Middle East Programme 2025

Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 edition of the International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) Middle East Fellowship. This initiative, established in 2005, aims to foster meaningful exchange and understanding between journalists working in Germany and their counterparts from the Middle East. Focused on a region that continues to face significant political and social challenges, the program is designed to deepen media collaboration and mutual learning. Journalists from countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, the Palestinian Territories, and Israel are invited to participate in this cross-cultural experience alongside German media professionals.

The fellowship offers up to five media practitioners from the Middle East the opportunity to travel to Germany for a professional and cultural immersion lasting two months. This is made possible through partnerships with public institutions, foundations, and private sponsors based in both regions. German journalists are also eligible to apply for reciprocal placements in the Middle East under the same program framework. The fellowship is open to media professionals who are at least 21 years old and currently employed in journalism, including reporters, trainees, and staff writers. Applicants must be citizens of the specified countries, and the upper age limit for participation is 37 years.

Successful applicants will receive a one-time grant of 5,000 euros, which includes a 1,000-euro allowance for travel-related expenses. This funding is intended to cover the bulk of the participant’s travel, housing, and daily living costs while in Germany, though fellows are expected to contribute to their own expenses as well. Please note that the program does not offer payment for any journalism work produced during the placement.

The program will commence with a joint orientation session in Berlin from October 29 to 31, 2025, attended by both Middle Eastern and German participants. Afterward, fellows will undertake a German language course and begin their two-month placement at a local media organization, gaining firsthand experience and insight into the German media landscape.
