The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invites applications from experienced professionals to join a roster of experts supporting the development and implementation of high-integrity carbon market initiatives under the Climate Promise 2025. This global initiative supports developing countries in delivering ambitious climate goals aligned with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNDP is looking for candidates with proven expertise in carbon market mechanisms, climate policy, environmental safeguards, stakeholder engagement, and innovative finance. Rostered experts may be deployed on short notice to support national governments and UNDP country offices.

Areas of Expertise Sought

UNDP seeks technical professionals with specialized knowledge in the following domains:

1. Carbon Project Development & Monitoring

• Agricultural, forestry, waste, and energy sector carbon project design
• REDD+ and jurisdictional program development
• Emission monitoring systems and verification processes
• Implementation under CORSIA, voluntary and compliance markets

2. Carbon Market Landscape & Methodologies

• Carbon market dynamics and pricing trend analysis
• Emission reduction calculations and baseline identification
• Evaluation of standards and credit integrity
• Risk assessment related to credit delivery and accounting

3. Climate Policy, Law & Finance

• Implementation of Article 6 cooperative approaches
• Climate finance strategy development and investor engagement
• Drafting legal and policy frameworks for carbon markets
• Operational procedures and market oversight mechanisms

4. Social & Environmental Safeguards

• Impact assessments and safeguard planning
• Ensuring gender equity and social inclusion in carbon projects
• Community consultation and benefit-sharing design
• Grievance redress mechanism development

5. Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing

• Strengthening institutional readiness for carbon markets
• Facilitating South-South learning and peer collaboration
• Leading training and technical assistance missions
