FUNDED: Apply for the Government of Kenya’s Presidential Digital Talent Programme 2025 (Cohort X) for young Kenyan youth

The Government of Kenya has opened applications for the tenth cohort of the Presidential Digital Talent Programme. Popularly known as Digitalent, the initiative is implemented by the ICT Authority on behalf of the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MICDE). The programme was established as a strategic effort to nurture advanced ICT expertise in the country and to narrow the gap between industry demands and the skills of the local workforce. Aligned with the National ICT Master Plan, it emphasizes the creation of a highly skilled ICT workforce capable of meeting both current and future sector needs. Since its launch, more than 3,300 graduates have already benefited from the programme.

At its core, the initiative seeks to prepare young ICT professionals to step confidently into the labor market across both ICT and non-ICT sectors. Participants gain the chance to acquire practical workplace experience, sharpen their professional skills, access mentorship, refine their career direction, and establish valuable networks. The areas of focus under the programme include network and digital infrastructure, software development and artificial intelligence, information security, data analytics, multimedia design and digital marketing.

Those eligible to participate must have completed their studies no earlier than January 2023 and graduated with either First-Class or Upper Second-Class Honors, or their equivalent, from a recognized institution. Individuals who are awaiting graduation by December 2025 may also apply, provided they submit an official recommendation or reference letter from their university confirming the expected classification of First or Upper Second-Class Honors. Priority is given to graduates with degrees in ICT-related disciplines or engineering fields such as electrical, electronics, telecommunications, software, systems, and security. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a strong grasp of their chosen specialization and may be required to prove their technical abilities during the selection process.

The programme is open exclusively to Kenyan citizens aged between 21 and 29 who are currently unemployed. It is also a requirement that applicants should not have taken part in any previous government internship. Successful candidates must be willing to accept full-time placements in ministries, departments, commissions, and agencies across all 47 counties, working during standard government hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To ensure inclusivity, the programme encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, and graduates from arid and semi-arid regions.

Applications are accepted only through the official recruitment portal at recruitment.digitalent.go.ke. Interested candidates must complete the online form in full, as paper-based or email submissions will not be considered. All entries must be accompanied by the required documents, including a copy of the applicant’s national ID or passport, KCSE certificate, university degree or reference letter for pending graduates, and a recent passport-sized photograph. It is important to provide accurate details, as supplying false or misleading information is punishable by law, with penalties including a fine of up to Kshs. 200,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both. Applications will only be valid if successfully submitted within the 21-day window from the date of the announcement.
