Program Benefits

Participants in the UNU-WIDER Visiting Scholars Programme receive comprehensive support to facilitate their research stay, including a monthly stipend of EUR 3,330 to cover living expenses, travel, accommodation, and other costs. Scholars are also provided with medical insurance for the duration of their visit, and those whose travel expenses exceed EUR 1,200 may apply for a supplementary grant to cover the excess. In addition to financial support, scholars benefit from the opportunity to collaborate closely with UNU-WIDER researchers, access extensive data and resources, participate in academic seminars and workshops, and engage with an international network of experts in development economics, enhancing both their professional development and research impact.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for the UNU-WIDER Visiting Scholars Programme is open to researchers from around the world who have a strong background in development economics and a demonstrated ability to contribute to UNU-WIDER’s research agenda. Applicants are expected to submit a detailed research proposal, a curriculum vitae, and a list of publications, showing evidence of academic excellence and the potential to produce high-quality research.
