The International AIDS Society (IAS) is now accepting applications for the AIDS 2026 Prevention Ambassador Fellowship. The IAS is a global organization dedicated to uniting experts from diverse fields to promote a coordinated response to HIV, with the ultimate goal of a world where HIV no longer poses a threat to public health or individual well-being. Since its founding by scientists committed to addressing the HIV and AIDS crisis, the IAS has been at the forefront of education, advocacy, and collaboration.

The AIDS 2026 Prevention Ambassador Fellowship is designed to support individuals who are actively working to expand knowledge of and access to HIV prevention. Fellows will have the opportunity to amplify their reach, strengthen professional networks, and engage with cutting-edge developments in HIV prevention science and policy at the 26th International AIDS Conference, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 26 to 31 July 2026. The conference will gather clinicians, researchers, public health professionals, community leaders, and people living with HIV both in person and virtually.

Selected fellows will receive support to implement a digital content project on HIV prevention in advance of the conference, contributing to the IAS “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.” campaign, with up to USD 500 in project funding. During the conference, fellows will design and create digital content translating the latest science, policy, and activism into accessible formats for their audiences, with additional support of up to USD 500. Fellows will also receive assistance for travel, accommodation, per diem, ground transportation, and visas if applicable, and will have opportunities to connect with researchers, policymakers, and activists, as well as participate in networking and professional development activities throughout the event. The fellowship will run until 14 August 2026, following selection notifications in March 2026.

Applicants must demonstrate a history of advancing HIV prevention knowledge and access, including initiatives related to PrEP/PEP, U=U, harm reduction, long-acting prevention, combination prevention, or policy. Candidates should have experience creating digital content on HIV prevention, with a combined following of at least 5,000 across platforms, or equivalent reach through community networks or documented engagement. A commitment to ethical, evidence-based, rights-respecting communication is essential, along with proficiency in English. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to participate in virtual pre-event onboarding as well as the full duration of AIDS 2026.

Applications from individuals representing or closely working with key and priority populations—such as people living with HIV, men who have sex with men, trans people, sex workers, people who inject drugs, adolescent girls and young women, migrants, and other underserved communities—will be prioritized. Candidates from low- and middle-income countries, or those creating content for underserved audiences, as well as those with experience collaborating with community-led organizations, clinics, or advocacy coalitions, are encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants should complete the fellowship application form, providing demographic and professional information, a statement of motivation, and brief descriptions of two proposed digital prevention projects (one pre-conference and one during the conference), including objectives, themes, target audiences, chosen platforms, and sample posts. Applicants must also submit a CV with a portfolio or links to recent HIV prevention content, evidence of audience engagement, a letter of support from their organization if employed, or a reference letter if self-employed.
