Applications are open for the YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (RLC-SA) Online Programme 2026, a fully funded leadership development opportunity designed to equip young African leaders with the skills, networks, and practical knowledge needed to drive sustainable change in their communities. The programme is part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), a flagship initiative that supports youth leadership development across the African continent. The Regional Leadership Center – Southern Africa is hosted by the University of South Africa (UNISA) in partnership with USAID.

This online programme delivers an intensive and interactive curriculum focused on Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, and Public Management. Participants engage in structured modules that combine theory with practical applications, case studies, peer collaboration, and leadership simulations. The goal is to strengthen participants’ capacity to initiate and manage impactful projects, lead ethically, and contribute meaningfully to national and regional development.

The programme is open to young leaders between the ages of 18 and 35 who are citizens and residents of eligible Southern African countries, including Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to leadership, community development, entrepreneurship, public service, or civic engagement within their communities.

Candidates are expected to show a strong record of initiative and a genuine passion for driving positive change. This may include involvement in community-based organizations, social enterprises, startups, advocacy work, public sector roles, or other forms of civic participation. While professional experience is not strictly required, applicants must present evidence of leadership potential and a desire to expand their impact. Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all programme activities and materials are delivered in English.
Eligibility Criteria
The YALI RLC-SA Online Programme is fully funded, meaning selected participants are not required to pay tuition or participation fees. Participants receive high-quality leadership training facilitated by experienced professionals and experts in various sectors. The curriculum is designed to enhance critical thinking, financial management, strategic planning, ethical leadership, and project implementation skills.

In addition to the academic training, participants become part of a dynamic regional alumni network composed of young leaders across Southern Africa. This network offers long-term benefits, including access to mentorship, partnerships, funding information, competitions, collaborative projects, and other professional development opportunities. Alumni are positioned to continue expanding their initiatives with the support of a strong continental leadership community.
