Applications are open for the Africa Climate Collaborative Fellowship 2026, a fully funded postgraduate research opportunity hosted by the University of Ghana through the Africa Climate Collaborative in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.

The fellowship is designed to support young African climate leaders who are conducting advanced research and developing practical solutions to address the continent’s climate challenges. Through academic training, research funding, and international collaboration, the programme aims to strengthen Africa’s next generation of scientists, innovators, and policymakers working in climate and sustainability.

Participants will join a collaborative research network that includes leading universities such as University of Cape Town, Makerere University, and University of Cambridge.

About the Fellowship

The Africa Climate Collaborative Fellowship provides financial and academic support to young African researchers pursuing Master’s, PhD, or Postdoctoral studies in climate-related disciplines.

The programme encourages interdisciplinary research and innovation aimed at solving real-world climate issues affecting African communities. Fellows will benefit from mentorship, research collaboration, and exposure to global climate research networks.

Research Focus Areas

Applicants should be working in climate-related fields, including but not limited to:

• Renewable energy and energy transition

• Sustainable agriculture and food systems

• Urban sustainability and climate-smart cities

• Climate policy and governance

• Climate and public health

• Indigenous knowledge systems and climate adaptation

• Social vulnerability, resilience, and community adaptation

These focus areas aim to generate research that contributes to sustainable development and climate resilience across Africa.
