The fellowship is fully funded and provides comprehensive support to ensure participants can focus on their training. The Polish authorities cover full tuition fees and grant access to university facilities throughout the 9-month programme. Fellows also receive a monthly stipend (approximately PLN 1,800–2,200 depending on academic level) to help cover accommodation and living expenses. Additionally, a one-time allowance is provided upon arrival to support participation in academic and cultural activities. UNESCO complements this by covering international round-trip airfare, providing health insurance for the duration of the fellowship, and offering a small pocket allowance to assist with incidental costs.

Applicants must be nationals of selected UNESCO Member States, including Uganda, meaning you are eligible to apply. Candidates are required to have already completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in archaeology, conservation, or closely related fields, as the programme is designed for individuals with a strong academic foundation in these areas. In addition, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English, since the entire programme is conducted in English. The fellowship targets young professionals, therefore applicants must not be older than 40 years at the time of application. It is also important to note that applications must be submitted through your country’s National Commission for UNESCO, as direct individual applications are not accepted.

The UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships are open to applicants from selected UNESCO Member States, mainly focusing on developing countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and parts of Europe. Countries are officially specified each year by UNESCO.
