They must also be actively employed as academic staff members at a university or equivalent higher education institution in their home country. In addition, applicants should ideally be at doctoral or postdoctoral level, or possess equivalent research experience.

Applicants must secure a formal acceptance letter from a supervisor at the host university before applying, as this is a mandatory requirement and demonstrates that their proposed research aligns with the host institution. All applications must be submitted in English through the official online system, and candidates are only allowed to apply to one university within the programme.

This opportunity is open to applicants from all Sub-Saharan African countries. This includes individuals who are nationals of and currently residing in countries across regions such as East Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, and Southern Africa.

However, it is important to note that countries in North Africa are not eligible under this programme. Specifically, applicants from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia are excluded.
