Applications are now open for the Women's Fellowship on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC) 2026, a regional leadership and capacity-building programme designed to empower young women across the ECOWAS region to address climate-induced migration through gender-responsive solutions. The six-month fellowship is implemented by the Women Environmental Programme (WEP) under the GIZ-led HMCCC Programme, with funding from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), co-financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and commissioned by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The fellowship seeks to strengthen women's leadership in climate mobility governance by equipping participants with the knowledge, practical skills, mentorship, and resources needed to influence policy, implement community-based initiatives, and contribute to regional climate resilience efforts.
Fellowship Objectives
The programme aims to:
- Strengthen women's leadership in climate mobility governance.
- Build the capacity of young women to address climate-induced migration using gender-responsive approaches.
- Support community-based pilot projects that promote climate resilience.
- Foster regional collaboration and knowledge exchange across ECOWAS countries.
- Increase women's participation in climate, migration, and development policy processes.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A motivation letter (maximum one page).
- A curriculum vitae (maximum two pages).
- A project proposal outlining an initiative to be developed during the fellowship (maximum three pages).

Additional Information
Selected fellows will receive:
- A fully funded hybrid fellowship running from July to December 2026.
- Participation in virtual orientation sessions and in-person regional training.
- Mentorship from experienced professionals working in climate, migration, and gender.
- Access to bilingual learning materials and interpretation in English and French.
- A pilot project grant of USD 500–1,000 to implement a community-based initiative or research project.
- Opportunities to participate in regional and international climate, migration, and gender policy events.
- Membership in a regional Community of Practice and Alumni Network for continued learning and collaboration.
- Anglophone: Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia.
- Francophone: Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, and Togo.
- Lusophone: Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.
- Applicants should demonstrate leadership or experience in climate action, migration, gender equality, environmental sustainability, youth engagement, community development, research, or policy advocacy. They should also have a project idea or existing initiative related to climate-induced human mobility and be available to participate throughout the fellowship.
- Francophone: Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, and Togo.
- Lusophone: Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.
