FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the Allianz Climate Risk Award 2026

Applications are open for the Allianz Climate Risk Award 2026, an international research competition that recognizes outstanding early-career scientists whose work contributes to a better understanding of climate change, extreme weather events, and practical resilience solutions. Organized by Allianz Re, the award celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026 and continues to connect innovative climate researchers with experts from the insurance industry and academia. The programme provides a platform for researchers to showcase their work, receive international recognition, and compete for generous cash prizes while contributing to solutions that address some of the world’s most pressing climate challenges.

The 2026 edition features three award tracks: the Global Award, the Allianz Trade Thematic Spotlight, and the new Regional Spotlight: Asia. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to present their research before an international panel of experts, gain visibility through publication, and network with leading professionals working in climate risk and resilience.

Participants gain international exposure by presenting their research to leading experts from academia and the insurance industry. The top ten Global Award applicants will have their work published in the Allianz Climate Risk Award Compendium. The Global Award winner will receive a prize of €7,000, while each of the remaining finalists will receive €3,000. Winners of both the Allianz Trade Thematic Spotlight and the Regional Spotlight: Asia will each receive €7,000. Finalists invited to Munich or Singapore will have their travel expenses covered by the organizers. The programme also provides valuable networking opportunities, increased professional visibility, and the chance to contribute to global climate resilience discussions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, or individuals who have recently completed their PhD within the past two years. Their research should focus on understanding the risks associated with climate change, particularly extreme weather events, or on developing innovative technological or scientific solutions that improve resilience against climate-related risks. Applicants are required to submit a non-technical essay explaining their research, a curriculum vitae, a completed application form, a signed declaration form, and a recommendation letter from their academic supervisor. Candidates must also be willing to participate in the award events if selected.

The competition is open to eligible applicants from all countries around the world. Researchers from any nationality may apply provided they satisfy the academic and research requirements outlined by the organizers.
