FULLY FUNDED : Call for Researchers: Climate, Environmental Law and Migration Research Project 2026 – Apply now 

The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria is inviting researchers and experts to submit expressions of interest for a collaborative research project on climate change, environmental law, and migration. The initiative is being implemented within the framework of the Global Campus of Human Rights, an international network dedicated to advancing human rights education and research across eight regional hubs.

The project seeks experienced researchers to contribute to evidence-based studies addressing some of the most pressing environmental and human rights challenges of our time.

Research Areas

Applicants may express interest in contributing to one or both of the following research workstreams:

  • Global Climate Governance
  • Climate-Induced Migration

Researchers are expected to contribute original research that advances understanding of these themes while supporting policy and human rights dialogue at regional and global levels.

Applicants are encouraged to prepare a concise proposal demonstrating how their expertise will contribute to advancing research on climate governance, environmental law, and migration within the Global Campus of Human Rights initiative.

Program Benefits
Successful researchers will receive:

- An all-inclusive fee of EUR 6,000 for each selected research workstream

- Fully funded travel and accommodation for project meetings and events

- Opportunity to collaborate with international experts through the Global Campus of Human Rights

- Participation in an in-person project meeting scheduled for September 2026

- Opportunity for selected lead researchers to receive additional remuneration for coordinating research teams
Eligibility Criteria
The call is open to researchers and professionals with demonstrated expertise in:

- Climate change

- Environmental law

- Migration studies

- Human rights

- Related interdisciplinary fields

Applicants should be able to demonstrate relevant scientific publications, research experience, or professional expertise connected to the selected workstream.
