Fully Funded To London, United Kingdom : Apply for the WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship
Applications are now open for the WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship, which will support journalists, media professionals and eligible students who would otherwise face financial barriers to attending the World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 (WCSJ2027) in London, United Kingdom.
The fellowship is designed to broaden international participation in the conference, strengthen diversity within the global science journalism community and provide greater access to professionals from countries and organisations with limited funding opportunities.
About the Fellowship
The WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship will support selected participants to attend the conference taking place in London from 6–9 September 2027.
Successful fellows will receive financial assistance covering eligible travel-related expenses, visa costs, limited local transportation and up to six nights of accommodation. They will also receive full conference registration, refreshments and lunches during the event.
The fellowship does not provide a daily per diem.
Who Can Apply?
The opportunity is open to:
- Journalists and media professionals covering science and related fields
- Journalists working on areas such as climate, health, engineering and technology
- Journalism students and students studying science journalism
- Students in media studies, science communication or related disciplines
- Researchers and teachers in journalism, media studies or science communication who have an established journalism track record
Science journalism does not have to be an applicant's primary professional field.
Applicants will also be asked to explain their motivation for attending WCSJ2027, what they hope to learn and how participation could benefit their professional work.
They should also demonstrate what knowledge or expertise they could contribute to the conference community and how they plan to share what they learn with colleagues, audiences or professional networks after returning home.
A statement explaining their current funding situation and why additional financial assistance is necessary will also form part of the application.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be assessed competitively based on several factors, including:
- Commitment to science journalism and the journalism profession
- Professional development and engagement with the science journalism community
- Motivation for attending WCSJ2027
- Potential professional benefit and contribution to the conference
- Plans for sharing knowledge gained from the event
- Quality of professional work
- Demonstrated financial need
The organisers also aim to create a balanced, diverse and internationally representative cohort of Travel Fellows.
Applicants from countries classified as low-income or lower-middle-income by the World Bank will receive additional consideration during the administrative assessment.
Applications must be submitted through the official online application form. An offline version is available to help applicants prepare their responses, but applications must ultimately be submitted online.
Note: Submission of an application does not guarantee funding. The fellowship selection process is competitive and applications will be reviewed against the published criteria.
