PAID INTERNSHIP: Apply for the GIZ Internship in Sustainable Energy Project Development in Berlin, Germany

 

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is inviting applications for an internship focused on communication and sustainable energy project development in Berlin, Germany. The internship is part of GIZ’s Project Development Programme (PDP), which works at the intersection of international development cooperation and private-sector engagement to promote climate-friendly energy solutions in developing countries.

The Project Development Programme is implemented under the German Energy Solutions Initiative and supports local commercial and industrial companies in selected developing countries to identify and develop renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects. The programme provides independent technical advice, connects businesses with German clean-energy solution providers, and supports market development through training, studies, and demonstration projects. Through this work, the programme contributes to climate action, sustainable economic development, and stronger international business cooperation.

The selected intern will support the project team with a combination of communication, research, editorial, monitoring, and project management responsibilities. This will include helping to develop communication materials and success stories, collecting information and visual materials from reference projects, organizing image archives, and contributing to PowerPoint presentations and other project displays. The intern will also assist with reviewing studies and sector analyses before publication, checking their formatting and methodological quality, and preparing materials for communication and marketing purposes.

Another part of the role will involve researching political and legal developments affecting renewable energy and project implementation in partner countries. The intern will contribute to maintaining country profiles by gathering relevant data, contextual information, and updates. They will also support internal communication by updating project intranet pages and coordinating with country teams to develop news and other internal content.

The position also involves improving the presentation and consistency of existing materials, including slides, documents, templates, and other communication products. The intern will help ensure that written content, layouts, visuals, and other project assets are clear, consistent, and professionally presented. Additional responsibilities include editorial support, monitoring project results, assisting with reporting and the preparation of the final project report, coordinating deadlines, and supporting the project team with day-to-day planning and administrative activities.

Applicants should have completed a Bachelor’s degree or currently be enrolled in a Master’s programme in communication studies, political science, social sciences, economics, or a related discipline. Initial experience in communications, public relations, content creation, or a related field is expected, preferably in an international development or sustainability context.

Candidates should have a basic understanding of renewable energy and energy-efficiency topics and an interest in communicating these subjects to different audiences. Experience working with websites, intranet platforms, presentations, publications, and other communication formats is desirable. Strong communication and coordination skills are important, as the intern will work with both internal teams and external partners. Applicants should also be organized, service-oriented, detail-conscious, and comfortable working with text and visual materials.

Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, is required. The position requires very good German skills at native-speaker level as well as English at C1 level. Knowledge of French at C1 level is considered an advantage.

The internship will be based in Berlin and will run from 1 November 2026 to 31 December 2026, with the possibility of an extension for an additional four months. It is a full-time internship under GIZ’s trainee category and offers a monthly gross stipend of €2,349.
