Applications are now open for the 2027 Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE), a distinctive programme for graduate students and early-career professionals who want to examine ethical leadership and professional responsibility in their fields.

The fellowship brings together emerging professionals from business, law, design and technology, medicine, clergy and religious leadership, and journalism for two weeks of intensive study in Germany and Poland. Through seminars, site visits and interdisciplinary discussions, participants explore how professional decisions can contribute to or prevent ethical failures in society.

About the FASPE Fellowship

FASPE uses historic sites connected to professional complicity during the Holocaust as a starting point for examining contemporary ethical challenges. The programme encourages participants to consider how individuals and institutions respond when professional responsibilities come into conflict with personal, social or political pressures.

Rather than focusing solely on historical events, the fellowship connects lessons from the past with ethical questions facing professionals today.

Fellows also become part of a growing international community of nearly 1,100 FASPE alumni, who continue to engage through workshops, virtual programmes, writing, lectures, symposia and professional networking.

Fellowship Programmes

Each programme focuses on the ethical issues and professional responsibilities relevant to its particular field.

2027 Programme Dates

The fellowship programmes will take place in Germany and Poland on two different schedules:

Law, Business, and Design & Technology:
28 May – 11 June 2027

Medical, Clergy & Religious Leaders, and Journalism:
18 June – 2 July 2027

The programmes involve intensive study, seminars and interdisciplinary engagement at locations of historical significance.

What FASPE Looks For

Recommendations should provide insight into an applicant’s ability to contribute meaningfully to an intensive programme focused on contemporary professional ethics.

Among the areas FASPE considers are:

• Academic, professional or other experiences relevant to professional ethics.
• Participation in discussions and quality of written and verbal communication.
• Ability to handle intellectually and emotionally challenging discussions.
• Capacity to work and travel effectively in small groups.
• Leadership potential within the applicant’s professional field.
• Other experiences or qualities that may contribute to the fellowship.
