International Alert Internship Programme 2026 – 6-Month Opportunities for Young Nigerian Professionals
International Alert is inviting applications from young Nigerian professionals for its six-month Internship Programme based in Abuja, Nigeria. The programme offers interns an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience while contributing to work focused on peacebuilding, development, conflict-sensitive programming, communications and advocacy.
The internship is available across two streams: Programmes Internship and Communications & Advocacy Internship. Interns will gain hands-on exposure to areas such as programme and project management, research, writing, monitoring and reporting, documentation, stakeholder engagement and fieldwork. Those joining the Communications & Advocacy stream will also have opportunities to develop their experience in communications, advocacy and digital storytelling.
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens who have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme and can provide proof of completion. They should hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and either come from or have strong connections to North-East, North-West or North-Central Nigeria. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in peacebuilding, development, communications, advocacy or a related field, alongside good communication skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Successful applicants should be willing to learn, collaborate with others and contribute effectively as part of a team. They must also be able to commit to the full six-month internship period.
For the Communications & Advocacy Internship, additional skills in social media management, graphic design, photography, videography or digital storytelling will be an advantage.
The internship provides an opportunity to build practical professional skills, gain exposure to peacebuilding and conflict-related programming, strengthen research and analytical abilities, develop communications and advocacy experience, and expand professional networks.
The internship will be based in Abuja, Nigeria, and will run for six months.
