Applications are open for the sixth grant round of the Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund (CIEIF), which supports environmental and social impact research linked to innovative climate interventions. The fund provides financial support to projects preparing emerging climate technologies for small-scale field testing, helping researchers and organisations assess potential risks and impacts before or alongside real-world trials.

Three grants of USD 75,000 each are available to eligible organisations and project teams worldwide.

About the Fund

The Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund focuses on the environmental and social analysis needed to responsibly evaluate innovative climate-intervention technologies. Its grants support work that can help identify potential consequences, strengthen impact assessments and inform decisions before or during small-scale field tests.

The fund is intended for projects that address the possible environmental and social effects of climate interventions, ensuring that testing is informed by evidence and a better understanding of potential risks.

Funding and Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

• Grant amount: USD 75,000 per project.
• Available grants: Three.
• Geographical coverage: Worldwide.
• Funding purpose: Environmental and social analysis associated with eligible climate-intervention field tests.

Projects with an international focus may receive higher priority when they have a US nonprofit partner capable of accepting the grant.

What Activities Can Be Funded?

Funding must primarily support at least one of the following areas:

• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
• Predictive impact modelling.
• Engagement with potentially affected stakeholders.

These activities are intended to strengthen understanding of the potential consequences of climate-intervention technologies and support informed decision-making before or alongside field testing.

Eligible organisations, research institutions and businesses developing innovative climate interventions are encouraged to review the funding requirements and submit their applications before the deadline 1 December 2026.
