Apply for the Helmut Veith Scholarship - Empowering Exceptional Female Students in Computer Science
The VCLA is pleased to welcome applications for the Helmut Veith Stipend, targeting motivated and exceptional female master's students intending to enroll in Computer Science programs taught in English at TU Wien. This scholarship opportunity is available for the winter semester 2023/2024 and the summer semester 2024.
The Helmut Veith Stipend is an annual award that acknowledges highly skilled and motivated female students within the field of computer science. To qualify, applicants should be pursuing (or planning to pursue) a master's program in Computer Science at TU Wien, focusing on areas aligned with the research interests of Austrian scientist Helmut Veith.
Dedicated to the memory of Helmut Veith, a remarkable computer scientist, this stipend commemorates his contributions to logic in computer science, computer-aided verification, software engineering, and computer security. Helmut Veith was a staunch advocate and mentor for women in the field of computer science.
Helmut Veith Scholarship Award:
Recipients of the Helmut Veith Stipend will receive:
An annual grant of EUR 6000 for up to two years.
Exemption from tuition fees at TU Wien.
Eligibility Criteria:
1.
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for admission to one of the master’s programs in computer science at TU Wien that are taught in English. In 2023/2024 those are:
• Master in Logic and Computation
• Master in Business Informatics
• Master in Computer Engineering (Technische Informatik)
• Master in Data Science
• Master in Media and Human-Centered Computing
2. Funding applications can be submitted before or concurrently with the admissions process. However, funding will be granted only to those who are unconditionally admitted to the master's program. Funding applications do not replace the admissions process, and conditional funding offers do not guarantee admission to TU Wien.
3. Female students who fulfill the following conditions are eligible to apply for the stipend:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics (Bologna first cycle) or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrate strong mathematical and technical aptitude and an interest in at least one of Helmut Veith's research areas.
- Show proficiency in English.
Conditions:
Recipients of the stipend commit to making satisfactory progress in their studies by:
- Attaining at least 25 ECTS credits from the respective master's curriculum per term on average.
- Achieving a grade average of at most 1.5.
Recipients must reside in Austria during term time for the duration of their studies.
The stipend is provided for the duration of the master's program, up to a maximum of 2 years.

- English language certificate
