**Department:** EEP (Energy and Environment Program)
**Location:** Washington, DC
**Salary:** $15-$17 per hour

**The Aspen Institute**
The Aspen Institute is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing a free, just, and equitable society. Since its establishment in 1949, the Institute has been driving positive change through dialogue, leadership, and action, addressing critical challenges both in the United States and worldwide. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute has a campus in Aspen, Colorado, and a network of international partners.

**Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion**
To fulfill our mission of creating a more free, just, and equitable society, we are dedicated to actively promoting the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work, including staff recruitment, compensation, training, and advancement. **Program Description:**
The Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program (EEP) tackles significant challenges by engaging diverse thinkers and doers to build a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable society. EEP addresses crucial energy, environmental, and climate change issues through non-partisan, non-ideological convening, with the specific goal of bringing together diverse stakeholders to enhance policy-level dialogue. This places EEP at a critical crossroads in the conversation, uniting expert stakeholders from various backgrounds. In addition to energy and environmental policy, which the program has focused on for decades, EEP now actively engages in climate change policy, encompassing efforts to mitigate climate change effects, adapt to its inevitable impacts, and promote international cooperation to achieve these goals.

**Basic Function:**
The Executive Office Intern will collaborate directly with the EEP Executive Associate, Managing Director, Executive Director, and other staff members. Their role is to support the strategic management of the program's diverse projects by assisting in organizing high-quality in-person and virtual meetings and events and prioritizing key administrative tasks to facilitate the dissemination of crucial climate solutions to decision-makers. This internship is part-time, offering 20 hours per week with negotiable pay ($15-$17 per hour).

In line with our Reimagining Work policy, the candidate should be willing to spend a minimum of 40% of their time in person with colleagues, while retaining the flexibility to work remotely for the remaining duration. In-person activities include meaningful interactions with colleagues in an office, traveling to different offices or locations to meet fellow staff members, attending Aspen events, participating in offsite meetings, or other opportunities for in-person engagement with teammates and colleagues.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
We seek a motivated and organized intern with a proactive mindset for the Fall 2023 term (ideally from October 9 to December 8, with exact dates open to negotiation). The Executive Office Intern will have the chance to examine our projects, assess information flow to the Executive Office, and offer recommendations. Daily tasks encompass various responsibilities aligned with the Executive Team's priorities and strategic goals. Key duties include:

- **Inbox and Calendar Management (35%):** Oversee internal EEP meetings, track the schedules of the Executive Director and Managing Director, and maintain up-to-date calendars.
- Support daily briefings on project/task updates and track action items and follow-ups.
- Manage the EEP Team calendar using Monday.com.

- **Task Management (35%):** Handle meeting outcomes on a tracking sheet, document action items, ensure follow-up, and provide assistance with tasks as required.
- Collaborate with the Executive Associate to analyze patterns, present key insights, and suggest improvements.

- **Ad-hoc requests (20%):** This includes organizing internal processes, researching stakeholders or topics, and proofreading and compiling reports.

- **Event/Meeting Logistics (10%):** Assist with event and meeting preparations and ensure materials are shared in advance.

**Knowledge, Education, and Experience:**
- Current or recent college/graduate student or other working professional.
- Experience working with Google Workspace.
- Interest in working within the climate sector or a desire to learn and communicate about climate change-related issues.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
- A positive "Yes, and" attitude.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks in a competitive environment.
