JOB OPPORTUNITY: EDUCATE! is looking for an African-based Climate Change Consultant (Education)

We are currently seeking a Climate Change Consultant to assist us in developing our Climate Change Action Plan, ensuring that our product offerings remain responsive to the evolving climate. At Educate!, we are dedicated to empowering youth in Africa with the skills needed to thrive in today's economy. We address youth unemployment through collaborative efforts with young individuals, schools, and governments to design and implement solutions that equip African youth with the skills required for further education, gender equality, entrepreneurship, job opportunities, and community development.

Our primary aim is to create sustainable and scalable post-primary education and employment solutions that significantly impact the lives of young people. We have developed a comprehensive 100-hour program that combines training, mentorship, and practical experience in entrepreneurship and business startup. We deliver this program to youth through three distinct solution lines:

1. School Solutions: We provide workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and 21st-century skills training directly in schools.
2. Education System Solutions (ESS): We partner with governments to integrate evidence-based skills education into national education systems and invest in ongoing assessment.
3. Out-of-School Youth: We organize industry-specific (e.g., agriculture, tourism) and group-specific (e.g., girls, literacy catch-up) bootcamps to equip out-of-school youth with skills for successful employment.

Our School Solutions focus on facilitating hands-on learning in secondary schools, while our Education System Solutions involve collaborating with governments to integrate skills-based learning into national education systems. Additionally, our Out-of-School Youth Solution empowers young people who cannot access formal education through livelihood bootcamps, with a particular emphasis on young women and girls in rural communities.

Over the years, Educate! has recognized the critical role of addressing climate change and environmental concerns. Our participants have initiated various environmental conservation and sustainability projects, such as recycling, to create greener communities. We are currently collaborating with government partners in Kenya to incorporate a climate resiliency focus into the national Community Service Learning (CSL) subject, aimed at empowering youth to mitigate climate change effects and enhance agricultural productivity through drought-tolerant crops.

Educate! acknowledges that climate change is a pressing global challenge, particularly affecting disadvantaged communities and youth. In response, we are committed to prioritizing climate change in our programming to:

1. Enable youth to adapt, take action, and build resilience in their communities regarding climate change.
2. Contribute to climate-positive development pathways.

Scope of the Consultancy:
We are seeking a consultant to assist us in developing our comprehensive Climate Change Action Plan. This consultancy will involve:

1. Assessing Educate!'s current approach to climate change, including its alignment with our strategic plan, solution lines, and theory of change.
2. Conducting a benchmark analysis of up to 10 leading youth- and education-focused institutions globally and regionally regarding their climate change programming.
3. Analyzing global, regional, and national climate change education-related policies.
4. Identifying climate change funding opportunities and trends, particularly those focused on youth and education.
5. Proposing a concrete climate change action plan for Educate!, including actionable steps and integration strategies.

The consultancy will primarily involve desk-based research and analysis, with some orientation and dissemination conversations. It can be conducted remotely and is expected to span approximately 5-7 consultancy days. We invite interested consultants to submit proposals outlining their technical methodology, proposed timeline, and budget.

Location and Time Zones:
Candidates based in East Africa are strongly encouraged to apply.
