The program offers two categories: Schuman traineeships within the Secretariat and Traineeships with Members.

In honor of Robert Schuman, the European Parliament offers a paid Schuman traineeship, giving participants a rare window into the operations of EU institutions. A variety of topics are covered during the five-month internship, including EU policy, finance, legislation, administration, infrastructure, multilingualism, logistics, communication, and IT. Every year, approximately 800 trainees are chosen.

European Parliament Traineeships 2024 provide paid traineeships to MEPs in Brussels or Strasbourg, covering various topics and specific duties. The duration is typically six weeks to five months. These opportunities provide young professionals with a platform to actively contribute to shaping the European Union's direction.

Over 400 traineeship offers are available per campaign across various fields such as communication, law, multilingualism, international relations, administration, infrastructure and logistics, EU internal policies, IT, and HR.

Non-EU nationals are required to apply for visas, residence permits, and work permits; they will not be reimbursed for any costs incurred.

The Schuman traineeship offers a monthly stipend of around 1496€ in Brussels and Luxembourg, with a travel allowance. For traineeships with Members of the European Parliament, the grant ranges from €912 to €1495 per month. The traineeship provides insight into the EU's operations, practical involvement in decision-making processes, and a multicultural environment. Many former trainees go on to successful careers within EU institutions and national governments.
Eligibility Criteria
According to the Schuman Traineeship:
- The minimum age requirement for applicants is 18.
- They must be university graduates.
- Candidates must be citizens of a country that is an accession candidate or a member state of the European ---Union. A small number of traineeships may occasionally be made available to citizens of other nations.
- Along with having a strong command of a second official language, proficiency in at least one of the EU's official languages is required.
- A very high level of proficiency in either English, French, or German is necessary for nationals of non-Member States.
- Candidates must present a criminal history that satisfies the requirements.
- Additionally, anyone who have already worked there or had any other form of training for more than two months in a row are not eligible.

Traineeship for Members of the European Parliament

All trainees must be at least 18 years old.
- Candidates must be nationals of either a candidate nation or a member state of the European Union to be eligible. Members may, however, choose to provide traineeships to people from other nations, provided they have the appropriate visas.
- Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma at a level appropriate for admission to a university. As an alternative, they might have finished a similar-level higher or technical education program or hold a university degree.
- They shouldn't be covered by any official employment agreements.
- Candidates who have previously served as a parliamentary assistant to a member or as a trainee for a member are ineligible.

Application Procedure
The European Parliament Traineeships 2024 offer three traineeships, with shortlisted candidates required to provide supporting documents. Successful applicants receive an official admission letter via email. Schuman traineeships, awarded for five months, require direct contact with European Parliament Members.
