The National Trust is accepting applications for programs and initiatives that assist regional communities in gaining access to, appreciating, learning about, and/or preserving the natural and historical resources of the eastern South Downs.

The Changing Chalk Community Grants Scheme assists locally driven, grassroots projects that aim to revive local history, reclaim lost habitats, and offer fresh outdoor experiences. The program, in collaboration with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, seeks to grant a total of £150,000 to regional initiatives during the course of the Changing Chalk project.

Objectives

• Projects must adhere to the goals of Changing Chalk, with an emphasis on improving habitat richness and connectivity, working with farmers and landowners, and restoring biodiversity in chalk grasslands.
• The theme emphasizes linking the Downs and towns, promoting active involvement in landscape maintenance, and boosting welfare within the larger community.
• The goal of the heritage project is to engage local people in discovering, interpreting, and celebrating the Downs' rich cultural past.
