Applications are being accepted for the Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) program by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) collects proposals for technologies that solve global development concerns and enhance the lives of those living in poverty in developing nations worldwide through an annual grant competition. DIV offers tiers of funding for innovations that show proof of impact, economic viability, and potential for scaling up, and for these innovations to be tested, piloted, and eventually scaled—that is, expanded to the greatest number of beneficiaries feasible.

Evidence of impact, commercial and public pathways to scale, cost-effectiveness, possibility for scale, and financial sustainability are among the fundamental tenets of DIV. Impact evidence shows how early-stage technologies can improve the lives of those living in poverty.

Applicants for public support, such as grants from the government or charitable organisations, must show how their work has improved lives. Evidence of long-term market viability—generally interpreted as customer willingness to pay full costs—is required for commercial approaches. Impact and cost are the two factors that determine cost-effectiveness, and DIV looks for innovations that have a greater development impact per dollar than alternatives. A combination of public and commercial revenue channels, or both together, is referred to as a hybrid pathway to scale.

In order to ensure that promising innovations are adopted and adopted in new locations, DIV supports a variety of development innovations, such as new technologies, business models, affordable solutions, policy innovations, social innovations, and data gathering and assessment.

Applications from different stakeholders in the development sectors of education, environment, energy, democracy, and economic development are invited to DIV, an innovation organisation financed by USAID.
