The AFRIKA KOMMT! Fellowship Programme for 2024/2026 is now accepting applications, with the 13th cohort set to commence in November 2024 in Germany.

This program unites forward-thinking young leaders from Africa with leading German companies, allowing companies to benefit from the expertise, knowledge, local networks, and unique perspectives of these young professionals. In turn, African fellows immerse themselves in German corporate culture, business practices, and society.

AFRIKA KOMMT! offers exceptional African professionals an unparalleled opportunity for a year-long transformative experience, aiming to expand their skills, knowledge, and experiences beyond their comfort zones. The goal is to empower these young leaders to contribute to the economic and social development of their countries by fostering sustainable cooperation with German industry.

The program selects top-tier professionals from across Africa, including North Africa, and facilitates a year-long journey of personal and professional growth in Germany. This includes German language instruction, international management training, study tours, and culminates in an eight-month practical training period at a host company.

The AFRIKA KOMMT! program entails a year-long stay in Germany for African professionals, during which they actively participate in their partner companies, receiving training and mentorship. Supplementary components, including language courses, trainings, and networking events organized by GIZ, enhance the overall learning experience.

Key aspects of the program include:

- Rigorous and customized selection process: Candidates are selected through a comprehensive process conducted in collaboration with participating companies.
- Language and cultural integration: The program starts with German language and cultural integration courses to prepare fellows for their time in Germany, including visits to cultural sites.
- Management training: Fellows undergo three modules of intensive management training, focusing on modern global management practices.
- Professional fellowship: Fellows spend eight months working on projects and gaining valuable work experience with their partner companies.
- AFRIKA KOMMT! Network: Networking events bring together partner companies and African professionals to share expertise and collaborate on projects.
- Alumni phase: After their year in Germany, fellows become ambassadors for knowledge and skill transfer in their home countries. A one-week refresher course either in Germany or Africa enhances alumni skill sets and strengthens the AFRIKA KOMMT! network.

The program is structured into three phases:

1. Selection and Preparation:
- Companies define fellowship profiles.
- Application phase.
- Candidates selected for the Assessment Center.
- Assessment Center and final selection of fellows.
- Preparatory German course in the home country for fellows.

2. One-Year Stay in Germany:
- Intensive German language course.
- Three management trainings focusing on intercultural competencies, leadership, project and change management, and conflict management.
- Eight-month fellowship in the partner company.
- One-week study tour.
- Weekend seminars.
- Networking events.
- Farewell ceremony with the Federal Foreign Office.
