2024 YALI East Africa Regional Leadership Cohorts 55 and 56 are now open for applications (FULLY FUNDED TO NAIROBI)
The application process is now open for Cohorts 55 (Residential) and 56 (Fully Online) of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
They are seeking young leaders eager to embark on a transformative journey in leadership. YALI, established by former U.S. President Barack Obama, aims to invest in the next generation of African leaders, recognizing that nearly one in three Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and around 60% of Africa's population is under 35.
The YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, based at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, serves 14 countries in East and Central Africa: Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. Deloitte East Africa oversees the center, which is supported by various African and international partners.
Selected participants will undergo leadership training in Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, and Public Management over a 4-week residential program, focusing on individual and team leadership skills, innovation, creative learning, and communication. The program prioritizes interactive and experiential learning to enhance participants' ability to contribute effectively both individually and in teams. Competition for the center is merit-based and open to young East African leaders aged 18 to 35, who are citizens and residents of one of the eligible countries listed above, not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, eligible to obtain a visa to Kenya, and proficient in English.
