$500 CASH STIPENDS: Apply for the Storytelling with Data Fellowship 2025 for young gender advocates and activists
Applications Open: 2025 Storytelling with Data Fellowship for Gender Advocates
Feminist storytellers and data advocates from across Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa are invited to apply for the 2025 Storytelling with Data Fellowship. This unique program seeks to empower gender advocates by transforming data into dynamic stories that spark change, shift societal narratives, and inspire action for gender equality. The fellowship will offer a platform for participants to use data to enhance their activism, crafting narratives that are impossible to overlook. Through mediums such as blogs, videos, podcasts, and art, fellows will collaborate with feminist organizations to bring gender data to life and drive policy and action for a more gender-equal world.
Spanning six months, the fellowship requires fellows to dedicate between 120 and 180 hours. The program is designed to support participants in transforming raw data into compelling advocacy tools. Fellows will move through four structured phases: onboarding, mentorship, storytelling production, and dissemination.
The program kicks off on April 1, 2025, with onboarding. During this initial phase, participants will explore the 2024 SDG Gender Index, analyzing regional trends and challenges. Fellows will identify critical gender stories relevant to their local contexts, setting the foundation for the fellowship.
From April to May 2025, fellows will undergo intensive mentorship and training. With hands-on workshops and personalized guidance, they will develop skills in storytelling, data visualization, and tailoring content for diverse audiences. This phase aims to equip participants with the tools needed to craft impactful narratives that capture attention and drive action.
The storytelling production phase, running from June to August 2025, will allow fellows to bring their stories to life. With the support of EM2030, participants will create various storytelling products, including infographics, videos, blogs, and podcasts. Fellows will have the freedom to choose formats that best suit their storytelling styles and advocacy goals.
The fellowship concludes in September 2025 with the dissemination and amplification phase. Fellows will finalize their storytelling products, which will then be shared across EM2030’s communication platforms. This phase is critical in ensuring that fellows’ stories reach key audiences and amplify advocacy for gender equality.
The program’s core audience includes feminist storytellers, journalists, and grassroots advocates from Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa. Each cohort will include six fellows, with two representatives from each region. Grassroots feminist organizations and influencers working to advance gender equality are also encouraged to apply.
Fellowship outputs will target a broad range of stakeholders, including journalists, media professionals, policymakers, funders, and the general public. By crafting accessible, data-informed narratives, fellows can support feminist movements, empower grassroots activism, and help policymakers drive gender-focused policy changes.
Selected fellows will receive a $500 stipend for their participation. The stipend will be disbursed in two installments—half at the start of the fellowship following onboarding, and the remaining half after the successful completion of final storytelling outputs. The stipend is intended to cover costs associated with storytelling production, such as software or other necessary tools. No additional funding will be provided, so fellows are encouraged to plan their budgets accordingly.
The 2025 Storytelling with Data Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for gender advocates to harness the power of data-driven storytelling. By participating in this fellowship, advocates can enhance their activism, elevate their narratives, and create stories that demand attention and action for a more equitable world.
