Water, sanitation, and hygiene are globally crucial, yet despite policy recognition, millions lack access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and handwashing facilities. Recent UNICEF and WHO data show 2.2 billion people lack safe drinking water, nearly half lack safe sanitation, and two billion lack handwashing facilities with soap. These gaps contribute to widespread diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia, major killers of young children. Challenges persist, including 673 million practicing open defecation and 367 million children attending schools with no sanitation. Meeting SDG6 targets by 2030 demands a fourfold increase in progress. Reckitt, committed to SDG 6, collaborates with communities, social enterprises, governments, NGOs, and charities globally. Initiatives like Dettol's Hygiene Quest educate millions of children, resulting in increased school attendance. Through partnerships like Water.org, Reckitt provides loans to over 1.8 million people for building taps and toilets. The focus extends beyond basic facilities to creating a sustainable ecosystem and increasing awareness. Reckitt believes in the power of social business, acting as a catalyst for long-term, income-generating solutions. Since 2019, Reckitt supports the Lead2030 SDG6 challenge, partnering with social entrepreneurs. In 2024, Reckitt aims to continue supporting impactful innovations in clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, with a focus on children or women/girls. Applications are welcome across WASH areas, emphasizing innovations using digital technology for wide-scale impact or promoting good hand hygiene practices in underserved communities.
