The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a non-profit alliance that connects Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs), Long-Term Programs (LTPs), and other applied epidemiology training initiatives across Africa. Founded in 2005, our mission is to enhance community health outcomes by collaborating with ministries of health, as well as national, regional, and international partners. We aim to develop strong, sustainable programs and build capacity to strengthen public health systems in Africa and beyond, ensuring they align with the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy and the International Health Regulations (IHR).
Over the years, AFENET has established a growing network of partnerships with international and regional multilateral organizations, philanthropies, government agencies, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Our membership now includes 40 FETPs across Africa, and we are committed to expanding our reach to further advance global health security.
