Applications Open: IOM’s Youth-Led Climate Mobility Grants for Africa

Applications are open for a new grant opportunity supporting youth-led civil society organisations working at the forefront of climate mobility in Africa. This call invites young changemakers to transform bold ideas into meaningful, lasting impact within their communities. Through this initiative, youth-driven and locally grounded organisations can access support to develop solutions that strengthen resilience to climate pressures, assist people who are already on the move, and create safe, sustainable pathways for those who may need to relocate.

The programme is led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the Danish-supported Climate Change and Migration Data Programme (CCMD). Its goal is to reinforce the capacity of youth-led organisations across Africa by providing financial assistance and technical support to implement, monitor and communicate innovative local interventions. The focus is on practical, scalable actions that respond to the realities of climate change, environmental degradation and disasters, while prioritising vulnerable communities and promoting long-term sustainability.

This initiative seeks to empower registered youth-led civil society organisations operating on the African continent that demonstrate commitment to inclusive, community-based solutions. Eligible organisations must be led primarily by individuals under the age of 35, with the project lead also under 35, holding African nationality and residing in the country where the project will be implemented. Applicants should have between two and five years of relevant experience delivering environmental or social projects at community level, and must include at least one team member who completed the IOM Capacity Building Initiative on Accelerating Youth-Led Action in Addressing Climate Mobility in Africa between August and October 2025, with a valid certificate provided.

Proposed projects must clearly address climate mobility within their local context, exploring solutions for people to remain safely in their communities, for those currently on the move, and for individuals or groups who may need to relocate. Organisations are also expected to uphold strong ethical and operational standards, including commitment to human rights, accountability to affected populations, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, data protection, humanitarian principles and non-discrimination. They must ensure that their teams receive appropriate training in these areas, can secure any necessary government approvals before project implementation, and are willing to acknowledge IOM and donor support in line with visibility requirements.

Applications must be submitted directly by the eligible civil society organisations, and it is important to note that any submission that does not meet the stated conditions will not be considered. The deadline for applications is 19 January 2026. This opportunity is made possible with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, whose contribution is helping to strengthen youth leadership in addressing climate mobility across Africa.
