The African Feminist Charter powerfully declared, "We reclaim and assert the long and rich tradition of African women’s resistance to patriarchy in Africa. We claim the right to theorize, write, strategize, and speak for ourselves as African feminists."

In this spirit, the African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) will host the 3rd African Feminist Academy for Climate Justice, inviting you to join this empowering journey of reclaiming knowledge and power for the wellbeing of our people and the planet.

The climate crisis continues to devastate the lives and livelihoods of millions globally, with African women and girls bearing the heaviest burden. Yet, their voices go unheard, their realities overlooked, and their needs unmet. Despite facing multiple crises, African women are mobilizing, preserving indigenous knowledge, and innovating to protect the environment, combat climate change, and dismantle oppressive systems. They are determined to shift the climate narrative across the continent.

The Academy will bring together African women’s rights organizations, girl- and young-women-led groups, and feminist organizations to deepen their understanding of the science, history, politics, and economics of climate change.

This weeklong workshop will provide participants the opportunity to learn, engage, and be supported by inspirational feminists from diverse fields, all united in the mission of reclaiming Feminist Climate Justice. Throughout the Academy, participants will have the chance to reclaim and share knowledge, challenge prevailing narratives, theorize, write, and stand firm in their truths.
