The goal of the SciComm Identities Project (SCIP) is to develop a more representative pool of academic scientific communicators and to change the way science communication is taught. Science communication initiatives will become more respected as a part of academics' institutional contributions thanks to SCIP. In order to promote culturally appropriate environmental protection, the project aims to boost the representation of under-represented minority scientists and engineers as science communicators and public intellectuals in environmental news coverage.

Pre-tenure teachers at US universities who identify as members of under-represented racial or ethnic minorities are eligible to apply for the SCIP Fellowship, a one-year program that promotes professional growth. Each of the Fellowship's three one-year cohorts will have a distinct thematic focus. These topics are all generally related to climate change. SCIP Fellows will expand their professional networks and acquire knowledge and experience in scientific communication, which could lead to new research directions and collaborative efforts.

Fellowship Goals 

The fellowship is intended to help pre-tenure career researchers develop their confidence and science communication abilities so they can use them and continue to improve them throughout their careers.
Stress the value of science communication to tenure-track faculty members.
Encourage the students and colleagues of Fellows to acquire these skills and competences.
