To be eligible for the WIPO Global Health Innovation Fellowship, candidates must meet the admission criteria of the Biodesign Program of the Department of Biotechnology. All aspects related to the participation of WIPO-supported Global Health Innovation Fellows will be governed by the Department of Biotechnology's authority, following its established rules and policies. The fellowship is open to international candidates, excluding Indian citizens, hailing from diverse educational backgrounds such as engineering, science, computer science, product design, business, law, medical, or nursing fields. Prospective applicants should possess experience in addressing global health challenges, especially in maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and FemTech.

Applicants are expected to have two to three years of work experience in the health technology industry or related research positions. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record in innovation, including patents and licensed technologies/products. An interest in understanding the significance of intellectual property rights (such as patents, design rights, trademarks, and copyright) throughout the health technology value chain, from initial research to product or service distribution, is crucial.

Furthermore, candidates should exhibit strong leadership qualities, adept problem-solving skills, creativity, effective teamwork, and exceptional communication abilities. They must also possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate the capability to establish productive partnerships and work relations in a diverse, multicultural environment, with a deep sense of respect for diversity. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential for effective communication within the program and broader community.
