The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU YVC) was established in 2010 as a flagship continental Youth Leadership program. It selects, trains, and deploys young African professionals from all 55 AU Member States to serve as professional volunteers for 12 months.
AU YVC's values include Respect for Diversity, Team Work, Think Africa Above All, Transparency, Accountability, Integrity, Impartiality, Efficiency, Professionalism, and Information and Knowledge Sharing.
The purpose of AU YVC is to promote volunteerism and enhance the role of young people in Africa's development, aligning with AU Agenda2063. It fosters skills-sharing and learning to build a more integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Continent. Eligibility criteria include being a citizen of an AU Member State aged 18-35 with a post-secondary certified qualification, available for 12 months of service, willing to work in another AU Member State, proficient in at least one AU working language, and having volunteering and work experience.
Application process involves submitting a CV, passport/national ID, highest qualification certificate, letter of recommendation, and a cover letter answering specific questions. Applications must be submitted before September 19, 2023, 11:59 p.m. EAT.
Required skills include proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, e-mail, and internet applications, good interpersonal and communication skills, and proficiency in AU working languages. Core competencies encompass clear communication, commitment to work, multicultural harmony, and moral integrity.
Volunteers are entitled to benefits like pre-deployment training, return tickets, monthly stipend, health insurance, AU Service Passport, and training/mentorship opportunities.
