The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is inviting applications for its 2025 Internship Programme at its headquarters in Rome. This three-month program is an unpaid opportunity designed to engage motivated young professionals who wish to contribute to global efforts in combating hunger and achieving food security. FAO’s mission is to ensure access to sufficient, nutritious food for all, enabling people to live active, healthy lives. Operating in over 130 countries with 195 member states, FAO promotes inclusivity, efficiency, and sustainability in agri-food systems, contributing to better production, nutrition, and environmental practices aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Internship Programme provides participants with a chance to bridge their academic knowledge with practical experience in fields relevant to FAO’s work. Through this program, interns will contribute to FAO’s Strategic Framework while gaining exposure to international development efforts. Candidates are expected to bring innovative ideas, fresh perspectives, and recent academic insights, enriching FAO’s diverse workforce. The program emphasizes teamwork, effective communication, relationship-building, and continuous improvement.
To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution listed in the World Higher Education Database. Candidates should specialize in areas relevant to FAO’s mission and demonstrate proficiency in at least one of FAO’s official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish. Knowledge of an additional language is advantageous. Applicants must be nationals of FAO member states, aged between 21 and 30, and possess strong communication skills and adaptability to multicultural environments.
