The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) South Africa 2025 is seeking young, motivated individuals to take part in a landmark event focused on youth-driven climate policy and urban development. Scheduled for 13–14 June 2025, this year’s gathering centers on the theme: “Just Transition and Local Governance: An Exploration of the Urban.” The event coincides with South Africa’s Youth Month and the Urban Twenty (U20) African Mayors Assembly.

This edition will include a model G20 simulation producing a youth-authored policy recommendation document, which will directly engage with the U20 process, co-led by the cities of Tshwane and Johannesburg.

Young people based in Gauteng Province are encouraged to apply to join as delegates for the simulation.

Delegates will receive a preparation guide during the week of 26 May 2025 to help them engage meaningfully in the discussions. Viewing of previous LCOY SA webinars is also strongly encouraged. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Model G20 Simulation Tracks:

The following thematic tracks reflect the priorities of the G20 and Y20 while building on the outcomes of LCOY SA 2024’s Just Transition Youth Position:

1. Education, Green Skills, & Equitable Social Inclusion
   Exploring inclusive skills development and education systems that support youth, children, and underrepresented genders in a fair transition.
2. Climate Finance & Circular Economy
   Addressing sustainable financial systems, climate funding mechanisms, and the role of circular economic models.
3. Sustainable Development, Urban Transformation & Energy Transitions
   Examining urban governance strategies for advancing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals through fair and accessible energy transitions.
4. Displacement, Peace, Security, & International Cooperation
   Focusing on the intersection of climate, displacement, and peacebuilding, especially for refugees and stateless individuals.
