Call for submissions: Diasporas driving impact—concrete contributions in health and wellbeing, climate action, and women and youth empowerment

Routed Magazine, in collaboration with iDiaspora, is inviting submissions for a special publication focused on the real-world contributions of diasporas to global sustainable development. This issue will spotlight innovative diaspora-led initiatives advancing health and wellbeing, climate action, and the empowerment of women and youth.

Theme: Diasporas Driving Impact: Concrete Contributions to Health & Wellbeing, Climate Action, and Empowerment of Women & Youth

Diaspora communities serve as critical catalysts for positive change—leveraging their transnational networks to drive innovation and bridge local and global development goals. This special issue seeks to feature compelling stories and practices that illustrate diaspora impact across three priority areas:

🩺 Health & Wellbeing

  • How are diaspora organizations improving healthcare access and equity?
  • What technological solutions have been introduced to bridge healthcare gaps?
  • In what ways are diaspora women and youth leading health innovations?

🌱 Climate Action

  • How are diaspora groups promoting sustainability and climate resilience?
  • What roles do diaspora actors play in shaping environmental policies or mobilizing for climate justice?
  • Which diaspora-led innovations support communities affected by climate change?

👩🏽‍🤝‍👨🏿 Empowering Women & Youth

  • How are diasporas fostering leadership among women and youth?
  • What strategies are in place to tackle systemic inequalities and promote inclusion?
  • How do second- and third-generation diaspora members contribute to global leadership and innovation?

📝 Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and submitted via the official form [insert link].
  • Final articles should range from 700 to 1000 words.
  • Submissions must be original, written in English, and use British spelling.
  • Language should be clear and accessible to a broad audience.
  • References to concepts, legislation, or organizations should be hyperlinked.
  • Submissions are open to diaspora members, migrant leaders, researchers, youth organizations, start-ups, government offices, and civil society actors from all world regions.

Additional Information

  • Submissions from underrepresented voices—including youth, women, and those with lived migration experience—are highly encouraged.
  • Authors may choose to remain anonymous for privacy or security reasons.
  • Views expressed in submissions are solely those of the authors and do not reflect the official positions of Routed Magazine, iDiaspora, or the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Key Dates

  • Abstract Submission Deadline: 4 July 2025
  • First Draft Due: 8 August 2025
  • Final Draft Due: 5 September 2025
  • Publication: Late September 2025
