The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), under its Youth Programmes Division's Office of Citizen Exchanges, has announced an open competition for the FY 2024 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship.

Benjamin Franklin's birth date is commemorated by the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship, which was founded in 2006. The fellowship seeks to build knowledge of media interactions and common ideals between the younger American and European generations. A four-week exchange programme in the United States is part of the programme, and it entails training sessions, workshops, community service projects, and cultural events. The fellowship also supports collaborative efforts that advance the objectives of the programme.

The Fellowship seeks to build young leaders, advance understanding between the US and Europe, and encourage civic engagement, cooperation, and understanding among adolescents from varied backgrounds.

Through critical thinking skills development for media creators and consumers, cooperation to dispel misconceptions, and an improved understanding of international relations and media's role in diplomacy and global issues, the Fellowship seeks to improve participants' perceptions of the United States and its people in Europe.

The programme will be housed on a U.S. university campus, featuring homestays with local American families in addition to shared housing for fellows. It might involve a week-long educational tour, an opportunity to experience American diversity, and a programme finale in Washington, DC. Through interactive exercises, real-world applications, and hands-on learning about democratic principles, volunteer work, conflict resolution, communication techniques, critical thinking, and media, the programme focuses on investigating global concerns.

Participants
There will be about 55 students from all throughout Europe and the United States, ages 16 to 18, who will be eligible for the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship. Participants should exhibit a keen interest in public or community service, the function of the press and freedom of expression (including advocacy and debate in democracies), international concerns and diplomatic relations, and/or these topics. For a total of forty-five competitively selected participants from the United States, the programme will include one fellow from each participating European nation.
