Mission and Approach
UAF-Africa operates as a rapid response fund, poised to swiftly address the urgent needs of women involved in various movements. With registrations in Kenya and Zimbabwe, UAF-Africa maintains a strong presence across Africa's five sub-regions:
- East Africa: Nairobi & Makuyu (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)
- North Africa: Cairo (Egypt)
- Southern Africa: Harare (Zimbabwe), Lilongwe & Blantyre (Malawi), Antananarivo (Madagascar), Johannesburg & Cape Town (South Africa)
- West Africa: Abuja (Nigeria), Parakou & Cotonou (Benin), Yaoundé & Douala (Cameroon), Lomé (Togo)
- Central Africa: (locations unspecified)
Rapid Response Grant-Making
Recognizing the necessity for prompt action in a continent where opportunities and threats can quickly arise and fade, UAF-Africa utilizes a Rapid Response Grant-making system. This approach supports unforeseen, time-sensitive, and innovative initiatives that promote women’s empowerment in areas such as democratic governance, economic, environmental, and climate justice, natural resource management, and conflict transformation, all while protecting their rights and integrity.
Feminist Knowledge Leadership Program: Summary
Objective
The Feminist Knowledge Leadership Program is focused on cultivating a learning environment both within UAF-Africa and beyond. It seeks to enhance awareness, consistently develop and express feminist, Pan-Africanist ideas, and convert these insights into actionable solidarity.
Position Summary
The Feminist Knowledge Leadership Programme Intern will assist in the execution of knowledge leadership activities, ensuring that projects related to documentation, learning, research, and information management are completed efficiently. The intern will report to the Knowledge Leadership Senior Programme Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the organization of both in-person and virtual meetings.
- Address queries from partners with guidance from the supervisor.
- Gather and upload data collection forms from Registry partners.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
Work Environment

Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in women’s studies, social sciences, or a related field.
- Proficiency in English and French, with Arabic or Portuguese being a plus.
- Previous research experience in women’s rights, human rights, or social justice is advantageous.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in research and knowledge generation.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to travel across Africa and beyond when needed.
- Understanding of gender equality and women’s rights, particularly in unstable or post-conflict African contexts.
- Passionate about UAF-Africa’s mission, with a focus on teamwork and achieving goals.
- Proficiency in interpersonal, public speaking, writing, and negotiation.
- Experience in a virtual work environment is a bonus.
